The Silver Skate Festival is the longest running winter festival in the City of Edmonton. Still rooted in Dutch traditions, in recent years the festival has become an extravaganza of art, culture, recreation and sports programming in William Hawrelak Park. This is no small feat and would not be possible without the support of our partners and in-kind contributors.
Festival Programming will include an expanded program of free events and activities to include even more recreational activities, snow sculpting, , roving performers, horse drawn sleigh rides, our international snow sculpture symposium, Live Performers in the Parks, four evening of the Silver Skate Folk Trail with fire sculpture installations, and our Heritage Village.
Over 70,000 people enjoyed the Festival in 2015 and the Silver Skate Festival has become the premier winter festival in the greater Edmonton area. We anticipate even more festival goers in 2016.
As a partner with the Dead Cold Run, donations and fundraising will benefit the Snow Daze School Program.
The Silver Skate Festival Snow Daze School Program has been developed to get school aged children outside and active during our Edmonton Winter. Programming includes skating and winter sport, snow sculpting, orienteering and aboriginal programming in a tipi. A fun filled day of recreation and education outside being active in beautiful Hawrelak Park during the festival.
